the proposed Men's
Group Charter
Realignment
of the Men’s
Group (MG)
As
the vestry and
our rector have
addressed parish
planning, it was
determined that
some church commissions
would benefit from
having a Charter
or policy and procedures
document. A working
group completed
such a document
for the MG, which
will go to the vestry
for approval at
its next meeting
and be published
for the men and
all members of the
parish.
The
MG has a long and
rich history at
St. Aidan’s;
however, in recent years
the participation has
come mainly from the
senior members of the
congregation while in
years past it was more
vibrant with all age
groups represented.
In order to enrich our
fellowship and to sustain
the MG as a lasting
commission of our parish,
all men of the church
are solicited to participate
and enrich our fellowship.
The
charter addresses
the Scope, Purpose,
Expectations and
Procedures of the
MG and sets forth
a calendar of events
(timeline) to enable
all the men and
the rest of the
congregation to
be informed of the
plans. Our Expectations
include “providing
Sunday brunches for
the Parish after the
second service five
times a year,” and
we are striving to create
delicious, heart-healthy
menus.
All
men are urged to
attend a meeting
in the Parish Hall
between the services
on June 6, 2010,
to be briefed on
the
plans to move forward.
Won’t
you please join us and
plan to bring suggestions
to improve this important
ministry?
Finally,
Bob Simeone, who
was a member of
the
working group,
has
agreed to serve
as
Chairman of the
group
as we move forward.

ABOUT
THE MEN'S GROUP
The
Men of St. Aidan’s
have been active
in raising money
for outreach for
over forty years. Key
fund raisers
are the annual
fall Bar-B-Que
sale, fish fries,
and the Second
Sunday brunch.
Bar-B-Que
is
sold
by
the
pound
after
each
service
during
the
fall,
$6.95
per
lb.,
$17.00
for
3 lbs.
Outreach
projects include annual sponsorship
a young man at Boys Home in Covington,
Virginia. The Men’s
Group provides scholarships for
youth to attend camp at Chanco
on the James Camp and Conference
Center, support
of the Mission of the Holy Spirit
in Norfolk and sponsorship of
the Holy Terrors softball team. Fund
raising proceeds include items
not in the church’s
budget such as tables and chairs,
communion kits, and
bell choir equipment. The
Men’s
Group prepares and serves special
brunches throughout the year such
as the annual Mother’s
Day brunch.
All
male members of
St. Aidan’s
are considered members
of the Men’s
Group and are welcome
at the group’s
planning meeting
at 9:30 a.m. on
the first Sunday
of the month. |
